Purpose Driven

"True happiness... is not attained through self-gratification, but through fidelity to a worthy purpose."

Helen Keller

What is the purpose of life? This is a very debatable question that each of you will have your own individual answer. So now that we are here are you thinking of what your answer would be to that question? What is your purpose in life? Do you have any idea what it is? If so has it changed over time? Is it so big of a question that you need some time to break it down so that you can give a well thought out answer?

Do not fret. If you don’t have an answer readily available you are not alone. Many people have no idea what the purpose of their life is at this moment. Many people have gotten lost in day to day living or better yet, survival. Who has time to think about purpose when bills need to be paid? Who has time to think about purpose when you are new in your job and you have a lot to learn? Who has time to think about purpose when you just can stop thinking about how you would love to stop sleeping alone at night?

Don’t Get Lost in the Cycle

This journey we call life will have many ups and downs. At times we all can get lost in that cycle. It is nothing to be ashamed of or upset about. However, if you are lost in that cycle you need to do everything in your power to get out of it. Knowing your purpose is one tool that will help you do just that. Knowing your purpose is a power. It is power is available to us all but many don’t access.

To maximize that power your purpose must be well defined. For example your purpose in life could be to be a good friend to anyone you decide to be friends with. We all want good friends so that would be a noble purpose. However, it is not very powerful. You get to define what is good. You get to define who is your friend. You can change any of those at any time just to make you comfortable. This won’t have much sticking power when you friends betray you or makes a huge mistake that hurts you.

Yet what if your purpose in life is to connect with as many people as possible, sharing love and spreading knowledge of something you believe will help them all have better lives? That too is a noble purpose. As human beings we all want to connect with others. Yet when you combine that with love and helping others to have a better life, you now have great power.  You won’t be able to change your stance just to make you comfortable. You will encounter many people that will make you uncomfortable helping. Yet because you believe in your purpose you will continue on.

Know Your Purpose

When you know your purpose you will work every day to accomplish it. Some of those actions will be small and some of those actions will be large. Nonetheless all of those actions will be taken. You will take those actions. Knowing your purpose is a key to Drew’s 5th reminder, Decisively Intent.

The reminder Decisively Intent is centered on the actions you need to take every day to be successful in life. In this case your need to be successful is the same as your need to live your purpose in life. Your intent every day should be to fulfill your purpose. To meet that intent you have to decide what actions you are going to take to make that purpose a reality.

You will need to take those actions often. It may be every day. It may be every week. It may be every month. Whatever the necessary frequency you must define the actions to insure you are taking the right ones. You can’t get caught up in the cycle of life and forget your purpose and expect it to come to fruition. When you have a well-defined purpose it makes it hard to forget how important it is to you to make a reality.

Just in Case You Forget

But Drew’s Reminders are here just in case you do sometimes forget why you are here. When you see the reminder, Decisively Intent, you will not only think about the things you need to get done today. You will also think about your purpose in life. That at least is the goal. If you do the work to define your purpose then achieving that goal should not be difficult. That way when you are reviewing the reminder, Decisively Intent, and thinking about what actions you will take today, you will include an action or two centered on your purpose.

With a well-defined purpose you will then take actions to make that purpose a reality. That is where the power lies. The power to take an intention and make it a reality is something that we all inherently have within us. However, that power will only transform if we take the right actions. Actions are the key to success. Taking those actions are your responsibility. Your life purpose is depending on you to take those actions. Have you defined your life’s purpose? Is so remember to be Decisively Intent. If not take some time to define your life's purpose and then remember to be Decisively Intent.

As always I wish you the best and remind you to enjoy the journey.

With Gratitude,
